Map the cost of handoffs
List the places where a person re-enters data or reconciles two systems. The time spent on these handoffs, and the errors they create, provide a useful measure of the opportunity for a more connected setup.
Compare workflows, not feature counts
Use a small set of real business scenarios to evaluate alternatives. A long feature list is less useful than knowing whether your quotation, delivery, invoice and reporting processes fit the system.
Include ownership costs
Consider configuration, licensing where applicable, data preparation, training, integrations and ongoing support. The best comparison covers the period in which you expect to operate the system.
Choose a manageable transition
A phased rollout can reduce disruption. Decide which system owns each type of data during the transition, and set a clear point at which each older workflow can be retired.
