Inventory the moving parts
List custom modules, third-party add-ons, integrations, scheduled jobs and reports. Confirm the target-version compatibility of each component before building a migration schedule.
Protect the starting point
Plan backups of both the database and filestore, and verify that a restore works in an isolated environment. Agree who can access the copies and how sensitive information will be handled during testing.
Compare before and after
Use a staging migration to reconcile important records and balances. Test end-to-end business flows including sales, purchasing, stock movements and invoicing. Investigate differences before the production migration.
Plan the cutover and the fallback
Document the freeze window, execution order, validation checks and go/no-go decision. Define rollback criteria in advance. Keep users informed and reserve time for support after the upgraded system opens.
