Give every record a clear owner
Decide which system is authoritative for customers, stock levels, prices and orders. Without clear ownership, two-way updates can overwrite useful changes or create loops.
Design for repeated messages
Networks and services fail, so retries are normal. Use stable identifiers and duplicate detection so processing a message again does not create another order or payment.
Make failures visible
Record the status of synchronization and provide actionable error details. Separate temporary service failures from invalid data that needs a person to correct it.
Test the recovery path
Validate missing fields, expired credentials and partially completed operations as well as successful requests. A useful integration is one that operators can understand and recover when something goes wrong.
